Trump and yet another one of his failures

By Tilly White

COVID-19 has rampaged over our world, testing and pushing society to its limits. It's the ultimate test for the world's leaders and while many have risen to the occasion, Trump has once again fallen into his predictive ways. Just like every challenge that the U.S. has faced since President Trump was elected, Trump has tried to downplay COVID-19. Since the beginning of this worldwide pandemic, Trump has claimed it to simply be a 'hoax'. Once again, Trump practically denied the existence of this devastating virus back in January when COVID -19 first appeared on American soil. Even with the rising death tolls, he failed to take any wider preventive actions other than to quarantine the obviously infected and indoctrinate his people to believe that nothing was wrong.

His denial has only hindered this country, with more and more cases being discovered every day. This 'hoax', which will 'miraculously disappear' as he once insisted, has raged out of control due to his procrastination and downplaying. Newsflash, pretending something doesn't exist doesn't make it any less real! Trump had the ability to nip everything in the bud, back in January when there were only 15 cases in America but no. It has taken 2,438 deaths in America for him to open his eyes and stop playing pretend games. That is ridiculous. His hesitation and ignorance have caused America to have the most recorded cases in the world-- even topping China, where the virus is said to have originated from. Forget making America great again, Trump needs to pull his head out of the sand and enforce some necessary measures if he wants to stop this disaster. Denial isn't the only tactic President Trump has used throughout this pandemic though. Racism has become another one of his favorites, yet again primarily on his twitter page where he seems to make all his important announcements. Apparently, President Trump is above the rest of the world as instead of referring to the coronavirus by its scientific name 'COVID-19', he once again channels his racism by calling it the 'Chinese virus'. Not only is that geographically incorrect as COVID-19 has now been declared a worldwide pandemic but is just plain wrong.

Ironically, America has more cases than China. Yet not only is this racism despicable but coming from the President, who is supposed to be a role model and leader, it is just disgusting. He is actively encouraging racist acts channeled by people's fear. He is once again trying to pass this problem onto someone else and deny all responsibility. His racism is inexcusable and the fear it breeds is destroying his country from the inside out. Maybe the virus isn't the only poison in America. At least COVID-19 sees no social boundaries and does not care about skin color and race. Furthermore, Trump-- having no medical degrees, no background in science of any kind-- has encouraged people to try certain methods of protecting themselves. Methods that no other countries have used for fairly obvious reasons. This reckless behavior has put so many lives at risk. His encouragement of the drug 'chloroquine' despite warnings, from not only the FDA but also his top infectious disease expert, has led to 3 people dying from overdose. He is not qualified to release medical advice, especially advice that is dangerous. Talking of medical cures, President Trump has recently been exposed for trying to make a deal that would ensure the developed COVID-19 vaccine would be exclusively available to the United States. He is trying to make money from the deaths of thousands all over the world. This selfish and economic-centered man is trying to condemn thousands to death while squeezing every last penny from their countries. He wants to take advantage of our desperation just so he can pocket the profit. He is no leader. My final criticism of Donald Trump's questionable approaches to this pandemic is his evident confusion and short-term memory loss he seems to have experienced across these stressful weeks. What else would be the cause of his constant hypocrisy and back peddling? First, the virus had 'come up so suddenly' in March despite the fact he'd been exposed to the knowledge of its existence for months previous. Then after having claimed to 'have it under control' and to 'not worry about it', apparently, the President had been able to see it would be a pandemic all along. These strings of lies only rope the country along as he desperately struggles to work out what to do. Not only that but Trump is signing away on money that neither he nor his country has. Guaranteed the 2 trillion dollars is finally going somewhere beneficial but surely, he shouldn't be promising money he doesn't even own? It doesn't surprise me though, with the entire health care system being as flawed as it is.

Now, it's just a vicious cycle that's going to spiral out of control. People's health insurance comes through their jobs, health insurance that is desperately needed in this crisis. But people's jobs are being lost because of this crisis. So, because of this crisis, people are losing out on their health insurance that they desperately need for this crisis? That is ridiculously nonsensical. I guess it's fine though and none of Donald's concern, even though the health of the public should be his top priority, especially now. But what do you think? How effective do you think his methods are?
