Tara Reade has accused her former employer, presidential candidate Joe Biden, of sexual assault. Reade says the assault happened in 1993 when Biden put his hands down her skirt and underwear without consent. As soon as Reade pulled away, Biden allegedly said, “I thought you liked me.” Reade told Business Insider she had been assaulted in the past, and the report was being filed now, and she wanted to make it clear: “I would be willing to go under oath or cooperate with any law enforcement regarding it because it did happen. Even if it was 26 years ago.” This is not the first time a past assault by a politician has come to light years later. One of the most famous examples is that of Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused in 1982. Both politicians denied that the assault ever happened. Reade was one of the first, but certainly not the last to come forward about being inappropriately touched by Joe Biden. Many other women have said that Biden touched them while employed under him.
When Brett Kavanaugh’s accusation happened, Joe Biden commented,
“What should happen is the woman should be given the benefit of the doubt and not be, you know, abused again by the system. I hope that they understand what courage it takes for someone to come forward and relive what they believe happened to them and let them state it, but treat her with respect.”
Now, a lot of people are returning to this quote to defend Reade.
Many people have been supporting these women, while #IBelieveTara and #TimesUpBiden started trending on Twitter after Reade’s story became public. Elliott Crow made a tweet:
Many major news outlets have not reported on these allegations. People are suspecting this will not affect his presidential campaign, especially with Bernie Sanders suspending his campaign.
